HID Global’s new DBond™ card production technology provides a higher quality, flatter MIFARE cards. With DBond, we are able to provide our customers with a very robust, powerful card that has a flatter, higher quality card surface.
What Is DBond?
Direct bonding (DBond) refers to the method of connecting an RFID antenna directly to the microchip without using additional soldering, materials or module housings that can take up space. The high performing copper wire antenna is directly welded to the chip eliminating the need for a bulky chip module. This allows the DBond connection to be significantly smaller, narrower and more robust than conventional RFID production techniques.
Why use DBond Cards?
The implementation of conventional chips in plastic cards has often caused uneven surfaces. These uneven surfaces typically result in misprinting, especially when printing using Direct-to-Card Printer technology. The new DBond MIFARE Cards are flatter and results in less print errors due to surface flaws.
By using a direct bond to the internal antenna cards are more robust, leading to fewer failures dure to bending. This is because there aren’t the additional antenna connections and module housings of other non DBond cards.

As our dedication to providing the highest quality products to our customers, we have made the decision to supply whenever possible the DBond MIFARE Cards. In particular if our customers are printing using Direct-to-Card technology as this is where the most noticeable improvements lie.
Our Direct Bonded technology cards, while predominately supplied as plain white stock, can be pre-printed for Membership Cards, student ID or loyalty cards.
